  3.     Some members of the Bensonhurst community were heard
  4. proclaiming their 100% Italian origins to the African-American
  5. demonstrators who marched through their neighborhood mourning
  6. Yusuf Hawkins' murder (NATION, Sept. 11). It made me think of
  7. the black American G.I.s who fought in Italy during World War
  8. II, trying to rid that ancient land of its homegrown Fascist
  9. regime and its Nazi allies. Funny how one generation's savior
  10. is another's "animal, crackhead, nigger," to name a few of the
  11. epithets hurled at the peaceful marchers.

  17. streets in black America where a white man dares not tread."
